Last Day of the 99 Cent Book Sale & Close of the Year

Today is the last day of 2016, and thank goodness for that! This year has been really rough on all of us. Today's also the last day to get my books for 99 cents apiece. So be sure to grab your e-reader versions of my books: Blood & Magic, Dragons & Magic, and Centaurs & Magic if you haven't already.

Also if you've read my books and enjoy them, please leave me a review. I would really appreciate it. So far I have four reviews for the first book, one review for the second, and one for the third. I would love more input. Also would love to see more people that actually appreciate my work.

Just so you're aware the fourth book in my Magic Series Corvids & Magic is slated for an August 2017 release. I'm super excited about that! I cannot wait as the fourth book is my favorite even if you're not supposed to have favorite books for your own series. I do love them all, but there's just something about the fourth one. You'll have to see for yourselves this August. ;)

In other news...I really wish I could stir up some more interest in my series. I have thought about commissioning artists to do renditions of my characters from the series and posting the pieces along with a tag to the artists social media on my facebook and instagram, but I'm also I'm not sure how well that would work. Besides, many of my favorite artists don't accept commissions. So I'm feeling a bit bummed out about all of that. But I'm hopeful for the future, and I can't wait to see what 2017 brings. It's going to be better than last year. I can't have another repeat of 2016. It was too emotionally and physically draining on me. I'm also going to try to explore some of my other talents because I have an interest in photography, modeling for fantasy photo shoots, acting, and singing in addition to writing. Something's gotta give because I feel I have far too much artistic talent to be stuck in a sub shop making subs for ungrateful people for the rest of my life.

99 Cent Deal For All My Books on E-reader & Some Other Tidbits

I have a new book out if you haven't heard: Centaurs & Magic. It's a horror, dark/fantasy novel that takes place in an Atriel pre-Lucille era to provide some insight into the awful character of Evan (a villain that is part of Blood & Magic). This third book of mine is a prequel and comes before all the other books in the series because my friend asked me for some insight into Atriel's past (which ironically comes more to light in Corvids & Magic which is set directly after Dragons & Magic), but I digress.

If you would like to purchase Centaurs & Magic you can do so by going to the following link: Centaurs & Magic.

Also, just so you're aware my publisher is having a sale for all the e-readers which means you can get the whole set of my books for $3 on your kindle. So head on over to Amazon and you can snatch up: Blood & Magic, Dragons & Magic, and Centaurs & Magic. If you're like me and prefer the paperback copies you can also purchase those if you have not already. For some reason the paperback version isn't showing up on Amazon for me for Centaurs & Magic so you may have to go to Createspace to get a copy there like I did.

Also, I am pleading for reviews. I hear sometimes that someone has enjoyed my books, and that makes me happy, but my publisher doesn't have that information unless people post reviews. I'm sorry if I sound like a broken record but if you enjoyed my books PLEASE, PLEASE leave a review. It is so important. I think you need 20+ reviews on Amazon before your book becomes recommended to people so please help me out, if you could!

I've only gotten one review on Centaurs & Magic and it's a little disheartening as it's a 2 star review. I'm hoping that people enjoy it or will continue to buy it to form their own opinion and aren't scared off by this one, at all. Just to be clear racism and sexism are not key "themes" as this person noted they were. The reason that sexism and racism run so rampant in this story is because it's told from Evan's perspective and he's a villain. I just wanted to clarify that. It's listed as a horror/dark fantasy so I'm not quite sure what this person was expecting, but clearly it wasn't their cup of tea. Trying not to let it get me down, but it really is; so if you could leave me a review that you enjoyed something I wrote it would make my day! Thank you so much, friends. :)

Centaurs & Magic - November 10th release!

I can't believe it! November 10th is looming ever closer, and my book Centaurs & Magic will be out! It's available for pre-order on kindle editions only. I'm super excited, though. It's the 3rd book in my Magic Series and the only one that breaks sequence. This book happens before Blood & Magic and Dragons & Magic (and all the others, to be perfectly honest).

Why would I do that? It wasn't intentional. I intended on making the series in chronological order. However, a friend of mine asked for more of Atriel's history and backstory so Centaurs & Magic came about. Ironically, there's more history in the 4th book which is set directly after the events in Dragons & Magic, but I tried. Ha ha.

My Magic Series is an ensemble piece that centers around my character Lucille Roddingale because even if she doesn't happen to be the main character of the book she is always present in the books. She's a big part of Atriel. Even in this book where she plays a "small" part.

Cover Reveal & Other Things

So excited! This is the cover for the third book in my Magic Series: Centaurs & Magic. It really makes me happy that my editor was able to make Veronique's eyes the colors that they are. For those who do not know Veronique has multi-colored eyes - one is hazel that is a honey brown color and the other is green. I actually based that off a girl I once met who had one blue eye and one brown.

This cover has me so pumped! I'm ready for the book release. It's due out in November. It's the only book that doesn't go in chronological order. I do that in all my series, but this one was different. Only because a friend asked me for more of Atriel's history. So I went back and fleshed out Evan and Veronique a bit.

Ironically, though, there is more history in book four which is set directly after book two: Dragons & Magic.

The books are an ensemble series that centers around Lucille Roddingale. They tell the stories of other characters and people involved in her life in large and small parts. Even in this book about Evan she plays a "small" part. She is the center of each story even if she's not the only character the book talks about.

I apologize for not getting any posts up in August. Not sure what happened there, but I am here now. The Magic Series is still very much alive, and I'm excited about that! There are seven books in the series so the story is far from over. I'm so grateful that my publisher is giving me another chance. That being said if you haven't purchased the books yet and would like to you can do so here: Blood & Magic & Dragons & Magic.

Also, if you've read my books and enjoyed them please leave me a review! More reviews can lead to more sales, and I could certainly use those! Plus, it helps me to better be seen on Amazon. You need anywhere between 20-25 reviews to really get noticed and I'm nowhere near close to that yet so any help there is appreciated. Thank you all so much for reading and helping to support my dream. <3

An Interview & A Desperate Need For Book Sales

My latest interview was with Ravenwings of PBN Radio today which you can listen to here: youtube. Don't forget to enter into the contest! There are free pdf versions of both of my novels Blood & Magic and Dragons & Magic in the running! Also my friend Sunbow Pendragon has one of her books as a prize so be sure and join in on the fun so you don't miss out on some great prizes!

I received my contract back from my publisher on July 17th, a day before my birthday. After crying about it for a few minutes - I walked back into the living room and sat down and wrote an email begging my publisher to give me an extension. She's given me another chance. In fact, the third book of my series Centaurs & Magic which is a prequel of sorts and set before the beginning of Blood & Magic is due out in November. I still need book sales, however, so please continue to spread the word. Thank you for all you support and kindness! I truly appreciate it. I would like to keep my contract and have all seven books in this series published.

Some News!

Hey there, everyone! Just so you know, I want you to know that I appreciate all who have purchased a copy or two of my novels Blood & Magic and Dragons & Magic. I would like to ask you to continue to do so, and please leave reviews for my books if you truly enjoy them so others may find them on Amazon and enjoy them, as well.

Also, the third novel of this series Centaurs & Magic has been set for a November release. I'm pretty excited. I know that I'm not out of the woods yet, but it makes my heart happy that my publisher is giving me another chance to promote my books and get some more sales. She had originally sent me out an email a day before my birthday that resulted in many tears; but I came back and asked her if I could get an extension as I have an upcoming interview and book giveaway which I'm hoping promotes interest and gets me some more sales. I would ask you to pray, continue sharing the links to my books, light candles, and keep me in your thoughts. I could use some positive energy and things to happen in my life as I've been struggling a lot in the past couple months. Thank you so much, everyone!

My Magic Series for anyone who may be interested is an ensemble piece centering around my character Lucille Roddingale. While she may not be the main focus of the story, Atriel would be forever different without her presence and she's a part of each story. Although her part is "smaller" in Centaurs & Magic which is a prequel of sorts to Blood & Magic and Dragons & Magic she still remains a central part of the story. I decided upon making this prequel as a result of a friend requesting more history and background of my magical realm of Atriel. Ironically enough I think there is more history revealed in the fourth book which is set directly after Dragons & Magic, but you do learn a lot about Evan and what drives him as a person and a secret that he tried to keep from the world.

Hoping to Keep My Contract & Kindle Promo

If you follow me on Facebook you may or may not have heard (as FB has been censoring not only my business page but my personal page in the hopes that I'll pay money to boost posts - you'd think they'd make it a little more user friendly if they wanted to keep people on their network), I am at risk of having my contract pulled from my publisher and I'm understandably dismayed about this fact.

However, my publisher is doing a promo on kindle in hopes of boosting my sales. Each of my books is only $.99 a piece when you purchase with your e-reader. Pick up your kindle versions of my books here: & Offer only good until July 8th! If nothing else could you at least please like and share my posts (should you see them), pray, and send positive vibes my way? I really want to keep my contract. Thank you all so very much!

Help Me Keep My Contract

I received a rather disheartening email this morning. I could potentially lose my contract with my book publisher if I don't get more sales for my book. So I'm really going to need some help. Please share the links to my books, and if you've read them and haven't left a review please do! I really don't want to lose my contract. I have five more books in this series to go. You can grab a copy of my books by going to the following links: Blood & Magic & Dragons & Magic.

I really don't want this to happen. I am already struggling with another problem that needs rectifying as soon as possible so when I opened this email, my heart dropped. I don't know how much more I can handle right now, but I do know that I want to keep my contract. I have published some links on book publishing and promotions groups, I've posted on my personal profile, my writing profile, my writing page, and several groups I'm in. I'm really hoping that I can make a comeback and that my contract isn't terminated because that would truly break my heart.

So please, if you could, help out an independent writer! She would truly appreciate it from the bottom of her heart.

Five Star Review: Whoo hoo!

My first review for Dragons & Magic is five stars! I am so very excited about this. Especially since my first input that came in about the book about a year ago was from a reviewer that couldn't even finish the book and insisted that I needed to rewrite the book entirely because the form I wrote it in served to hinder it and not help it. So with those two words "Great read" my spirits were greatly lifted. It is good to know that someone out there appreciates all the hard work, dedication, and heart and soul that I put into my novels. It made my heart sing when I saw that last night. I'm so happy and so excited.

You can't have rainbows without a bit of rain, but I'm glad that the sunshine has returned to me. It feels as if it's been gone too long. I'm getting acceptances for my poetry now, too, and so it seems that dark spell is dispelled for a while and I hope it continues (to be completely honest). Thank you all for your kind words, encouragement, reviews, and sharing of my posts. It all means so much more to me than any of you could realize.

Tired & Frustrated

I'm not going to lie and say that this is a cake walk. It isn't. It clearly isn't a journey for the faint of heart, I'll tell you that. I'm tired and I'm frustrated and quite frankly right now I'm sick of being told no and getting nasty reviews. It's one thing for someone to not like your work, but another entirely to stop you from doing your dream and for me that will always be: writing. Among other things this is the strongest dream I have right now. No one will take that from me.

Sure, it would be easy to walk away. It would be easy to say never again, but I would never be able to live with myself. The Magic Series needs me, all these stories I have yet to write need me, all these poems and essays and short stories need me. But right now more than anything I'm sick of begging for reviews, being told no, and not knowing when the third book of my Magic Series will be out. I think it's the lack of reviews that have my editor concerned. I think the fact that the first book in my Magic series is halved into two positive and two negative reviews may be deterring readers from purchasing the first and second book of my series.

I work a forty hour a week job on top of this that I hate and I'm just so frustrated with everything right now. I just want something to go right and everything seems to be going wrong. So, please, if you have a kind word for me or a review to impart please do so. I feel like taking up scorpion petting at the moment.

Thursday, April 28, 2016

Well, looking at my sales in February was more than a little bit disappointing. I barely made anything on my books, at all, which doesn't bode well should the trend continue. So I'm asking you if you have the funds and have been considering my books that you would snag your copies when you could. I would really appreciate it. I want to be able to write full time, but I cannot leave my job if I'm going to get paid less for my writing than I do at work.

I have two books available at this time of my seven book series: Blood & Magic and Dragons & Magic. They are available on Barnes & Nobles, Kobo, Google Play, Smashwords, Amazon, etc.

Also if you have purchased copies of my books please leave me a review. It really does help and it makes a difference! I only have four reviews right now - two positive and two negative. If I should receive another positive review, it might convince someone who wasn't going to buy the book to buy it. I really do appreciate every sale. If you have a copy of the books and you enjoyed it - in addition to leaving a review I would really appreciate it if you could tell your friends about my books. I could really use the help. These books aren't available in stores and I'm publishing through an independent press so every little gesture helps. Thank you ever so much!

Reviews & Their Significance

I have two reviews on Amazon that are positive and two that are negative for my novel Blood & Magic. If you enjoy my book please leave me a positive review! I could really use the exposure. The more reviews I have, the more likely my novel will reach more people, and to have a broader audience would be absolutely awesome.

Here's the link to Blood & Magic. This is only book one of my Magic Series. I would hate for my voice to be stifled as there are 6 more books in this series to be released yet. Please help my dream come true and help support an author of an independent press! I would appreciate that much more than you could ever know. My second book was made available in October 2015 and has no reviews yet. If you enjoyed my novel Dragons & Magic I would appreciate it if you kindly left a review here.

Thank you! Reviews and ratings really do help us authors to be seen and heard and as I have so much to say yet - I would love to reach a wider scope of people and get my writing further into the world. Thank you for understanding and helping me with my goal. I appreciate all of your support.

The Gladiator and the Guard

I'm excited to announce that my young adult action and adventure novel, The Gladiator and the Guard, is now available for purchase! This is the second book in the Krillonian Chronicles, sequel to The Collar and the Cavvarach

First Things First: a Little Information about Book 1:

Bensin, a teenage slave and martial artist, is desperate to see his little sister freed. But only victory in the Krillonian Empire's most prestigious tournament will allow him to secretly arrange for Ellie's escape. Dangerous people are closing in on her, however, and Bensin is running out of time.  With his one hope fading quickly away, how can Bensin save Ellie from a life of slavery and abuse?

What is the Collar for, and What is a Cavvarach?

The story is set in a world very much like our own, with just a few major differences.  One is that slavery is legal there.  Slaves must wear metal collars that lock around their neck, making their enslaved status obvious to everyone.  Any slave attempting to escape faces the dilemma of how and where to illegally get their collar removed (a crime punishable by enslavement for the remover).

Another difference is the popularity of a martial art called cavvara shil.  It is fought with a cavvarach (rhymes with "have a rack"), a weapon similar to a sword but with a steel hook protruding from partway down its top edge.  Competitors can strike at each other with their feet as well as with the blades.  You win in one of two ways: disarming your opponent (hooking or knocking their cavvarach out of their hands) or pinning their shoulders to the mat for five seconds.

Click here to order The Collar and the Cavvarach from Amazon
for $2.99 a discounted price of just 99 cents through May 30th!
And now, The Gladiator and the Guard, with another awesome cover by the talented Jack Lin!

Bensin, a teenage slave and martial artist, is just one victory away from freedom. But after he is accused of a crime he didn’t commit, he is condemned to the violent life and early death of a gladiator. While his loved ones seek desperately for a way to rescue him, Bensin struggles to stay alive and forge an identity in an environment designed to strip it from him. When he infuriates the authorities with his choices, he knows he is running out of time. Can he stand against the cruelty of the arena system and seize his freedom before that system crushes him?

Click here to order The Gladiator and the Guard in Kindle format from Amazon
for $2.99 a discounted price of just 99 cents through May 30th!

Click here to order The Gladiator and the Guard from Smashwords (for Nook or in other digital formats)

Sharmat's Folly

I usually focus on my own Magic Series, but yesterday I was approached with a request from a fellow author to review his novel.

So I read Sharmat's Folly by Clinton A. Seeber this morning, and found that I rather enjoyed it. I managed to get it free for exchange of a review I left him on Goodreads. I will say, however, that I do prefer paperback copies to e-copies but that's just my own personal preference and really has no significance or bearing on my rating of this book.

I think the vital lessons that I pulled from this book were: you have to believe in yourself and never lose hope (which ironically enough is Jacob's surname.

I gave him five stars and this is the review I left him on Goodreads: "Sharmat's Folly is an interesting tale that I quite enjoyed. It does involve a hero going on another quest as most stories do, but Jacob Hope is an unlikely sort of hero - a druggie pulled into a fantasy universe he is always doubting the reality of the world he's stuck into. He's a very easy to relate to character in that he is very flawed - cowardly and feeble. Yet despite his limitations, he pursues onward and tries to help Trena (the beautiful elf maiden) who saves him from calamity and her world from destruction of the "taint". It is an enjoyable read with interesting characters and an engaging plotline. My only quibble is that some parts feel as if they're dragging, but all in all the details and characters are very rich.

I really must admit that I am not a fan of Miss Trena Treelimb. I think it's because I didn't really perceive her as having any real flaws or quirks as if she's a typical "pure of heart" character. She didn't intrigue me, at all. However, I am really fond of Hammond. If Clinton kills off Hammond - it's over. I'm not reading any more books in this series. Hammond was my first and always favorite character of this series. Don't ask me why I adore dwarves so much, I just do, and Hammond amuses me. I really enjoyed his battle with the Iron Maiden and the truce they made at the end.

You can purchase your own copy at the following link: Sharmat's Folly.

Vlog Mention & Review Requests

My bestie Owl happened to mention me and my book Blood & Magic in her vlog which you can view here. It is the first book in a seven book series.

It's an ensemble series with the main protagonist being Lucille Roddingale. She shows up in all the sequels even if the books don't always center around her exclusively. The books start with her and end with her. There are a few loose ends left, but I prefer to leave some things to the imagination. Everything ties itself together quite nicely if you follow along from book one all the way to book seven.

If you've read the book and enjoyed it please feel free to leave me a review. I would love to boost my rating from where it currently stands. Also, if you've read my book Dragons & Magic and enjoyed it, please let me know! There aren't any reviews for that book yet. I would love to see that someone enjoys it.

Hope that you enjoy your day, I should be off to get some writing done.

Holding Onto Hope

Wow, just got a two star review today on my novel Blood & Magic which was to say very soul-crushing. Writing is my dream and I really want my Magic Series to continue. So please, please, if you enjoy my novel and just haven't gotten around to reviewing it yet - do so here: Review!. It takes my over-all rating down from four and a half stars down to four which is really crushing. I'm upset. Was working on some writing, but now I think I need to step away from the computer and remind myself to breathe.

I know my book wasn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, but people are truly cruel and scathing sometimes. It's so good to know that there are many people whose writing, art, or music I shouldn't support in the future. I won't harm their careers the way they're attempting to harm mine, but neither will I support them.

I'm going to keep on writing and keep on living my dream. But right now I think it's time for me to step away and go outside and enjoy some sunshine while it's here and breathe. I really want you to see the whole of the Magic Series. So please help me keep it alive by giving reviews, prayers, or some positive mojo because I could use all three of those things right now.

My Latest Interview & A Request

I'm not sure if any of you have read this yet as FB has a great tenacity to hide the things which are important for my followers to see. But here's my latest interview I gave, six days ago: Interview.

I have no news about the Magic series yet to give you to. Nothing new, at least. I'm hoping that the third book will be out soon, and I'll let you know as soon as I know. I think what may help with that is if I get some more reviews for Blood & Magic and Dragons & Magic. So if you've read these books and enjoy them, please leave a review so my editors can know! A lot of people have told me or told my relatives to tell me they've enjoyed the books (which is awesome and gives me a confidence boost!). However, this doesn't let my publisher know how many people are interested in my tales. Please help my dream come true! I have seven books in this series, so I've still got a lot more to say and a lot more to show you. A lot more plot twists and characters yet to meet and get to know better.

Lastly, thank you! I know I ask for reviews a lot but they seriously help. Books with 50+ reviews are advertised on Amazon. How awesome would that be for me to reach an even greater audience? I go through an independent publisher for my Magic Series so this isn't something you can just walk up into your bookstore and buy. That being said, however, if you could ask your librarians to purchase this book - I'd appreciate that, too. My mother's friend works at a library and she's at least bought the first book in my series. So, please, please, every little bit helps. If you like my books and can recommend them to your friends - that's always appreciated, too! I'm really growing weary of my job and would love for writing to be my income so please help my dreams come true. Thank you!

Cover Wars - Dragons & Magic

I am way behind in votes. If you could please go to: Cover Wars and vote for "Dragons & Magic by Linda M. Crate" I would appreciate it. I would really like to win! Thank you. Voting is daily this week and it's really easy! You're not required to make an account or anything. I've been trying to get this message to everyone through various social media so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. (I've shared it three times on FB and only one person has seen my post! Talk about frustrating especially when you're trying to win a contest).

All you have to do is go to the site, click on the circle beside my title "Dragons & Magic by Linda M. Crate" and click vote. Please! I really, really want to win and I'm really far behind in votes. It's depressing. Thank you!

Haven't heard anything from my publisher on when the third book in the Magic series will be out. What may help is receiving reviews for both Blood & Magic and Dragons & Magic so if you could please do that if you've enjoyed the novels and haven't? I would really appreciate it. There are seven books in this series and I don't want my voice stifled before it gets the chance to live. Surely, you've all had dreams, right? Please allow my dream to live. This is my plea as an artist and human being! Thank you.

Cover Wars!

This week you can vote daily for my book in a Cover War! I would love to win so please remember to daily vote for my book cover at the following website: Cover Wars. I'm pretty excited at the prospect of winning. I would be featured on the Author Shout website. It might even get my books some more exposure which would be nice as I could really use more sales.

If you have yet to purchase a copy of my books and would like to do so remember they're available on Amazon, Kobo, Createspace, directly through my publisher (Ravenswood Publishing), Google Play, Barnes & Nobles, Smashwords, etc. Please help support my art so that I am able to make more! I love writing. It is a passion of mine, and I hope that you enjoy the Magic Series.

Independent Publisher

I am publishing the Magic Series through the independent publisher Ravenswood Publishing through their imprint Chimera. My book isn't widely available in bookstores because neither the publisher nor I have enough money to finance that. Which means every purchase you make of Blood & Magic and Dragons & Magic benefits me greatly.

Also, I don't want to sound like a broken record here, but reviews help! So please, if you've read these novels and you like them please review them! Not only do they boost my mood but they may actually result in a sale (which would be awesome). Thank you to all my loyal friends and fans! I appreciate your support. Please do not feel bad if you cannot purchase a novel from me, I understand, but if you could share my work that would be immensely helpful. Thank you!

I'm a little numb right now, keep staring at the page of my latest novel and progressing no further. First we lost Bowie on Sunday and now today, Alan Rickman? The world feels a little less magical, but I'm listening to music and trying to recharge so that I can manage something before bed. Sweet dreams, and remember fairy tales. They feed our souls.

Also the excerpt of my novel that Amazon showed me when I checked for reviews today amused me. "Oi, dragonbreath..." Very descriptive. Ha ha! Sweet dreams, may you find the goodness and magic and light that you seek. I wish for nothing but happiness for you all and for myself, too. Let's make 2016 great despite the losses we may encounter and already have.
