A Giveaway & Happy New Year!

For everyone who may not have heard (because FB can be a bit of a butt sometimes) Litpick is having a giveaway of my latest novel Dragons & Magic. All you have to do is email giveaway@litpick.com with the subject "Dragons & Magic Giveaway Entry". Good luck should you choose to enter!

Pretty excited because last Sunday I sent in the finished and edited final project of my Magic Series - the seventh book. It was fun, it was exhausting, it was exciting, and it was amazing! It was a bitter sweet moment to finally be finished. I hope that you'll all love the characters of the Magic Series as much as I do.

I hope you all have lovely New Years! Normally I would stay on until midnight to wish everyone a happy New Year. Unfortunately, I work at eight tomorrow morning so that isn't possible. I can't wait to see what the New Year brings. I'll let you know everything Magic related! <3

My latest guest blog post & giveaway

Facebook sometimes seems to be more of a hindrance than a help, sometimes. I saw that only one of you saw this post from yesterday, so I thought I would give it a wee bit of a boost here. For those of you that don't know my book Dragons & Magic was published October 2015. Here's a guest blog post which is also hosting a giveaway for a couple copies of my books. Secure your chance and read more about my latest novel here.

Good luck! Also, if you've read my book and you enjoyed it, could you please do me a favor and leave me a review? The second book in my series doesn't have a review yet, and I think if it did, it might help boost sales. It's nearly Christmas, that would be a lovely Christmas present for me! Please, please. I live and thrive off my writing. Please help me reach my dreams of being able to live off of my writing alone. I would love and appreciate it forever. I cherish every bit of support that has come my way and continues to come my way.

Thank you for all that you've done and continue to do for me. Those of you that share my posts, support me by buying my books, and encourage me on my days are the ones that I cherish the most. You guys all rock! So be sure to check out the giveaway if you haven't already! I would love for my supporters to get something back for all their support.

Evolution, Reviews, & Other Tidbits

Well, it's funny sometimes how easily and quickly characters and plots in my novels can evolve. I wrote a short story entitled "A Villain's Intentions Torn published in Wordhaus which I had intended on being Canon, but however several things have happened since then that make this story simply an alternative universe. So this isn't Canon.

At the time this was written I had envisioned things a little differently including Cadalia's hair which is now blonde in Canon. However, I think this is good proof to me that characters and situations develop a lot differently for us novelists than we sometimes envision in our minds. Also proves as a warning to me that my characters have minds of their own and that I shouldn't expect to write short stories before I finish writing the novels if I wish for them to correlate with the books.

However, this short story Fast Food published in Carnage Conservatory does fit the Canon and I will consider it as such. This piece involves my characters Veronique, Rugged, and Cassaga (which you have yet to meet).

In other news entirely I have been observing Dragons & Magic with the hopes that someone would leave me a positive review. I have not received any, as of yet. I'm hoping that will change soon. To have just but one person that enjoyed this novel would make me over the moon. Clearly, I do not hope only one person enjoys it, but I also know that taste is subjective. Just after that initial negative response, it would make me feel ever so grateful should I get positive reviews. If you happened to enjoy that novel then please do feel free to leave me a review. I would appreciate it ever so much! The negative review mentioned how they didn't like my writing style but in a way that was less than constructive - I don't mind criticism as long as it is helpful. That was not. So, of course, if you enjoy it and there's something you don't like you are free to mention that. I'm not saying leave a dishonest review. However, if you like it, as is, then that's awesome, too!

Currently working on the sixth book in the series. It's hard to believe that after this book is finished that there will only be one more to complete for the Magic Series. However, there is a part of my brain that insists that this could be an ongoing series while there's other characters in my brain saying: "Don't you dare, you promised you'd write my story, too!".

Dragons & Magic

My novel Blood & Magic was published on October 1st, 2015. The first feedback I received from this novel was not good. I wrote an article about it here, if you're interested in reading that: Don't Tell A Novelist To Rewrite Their Novel It's Their Dream Not Yours. To put it plainly for those of you that may not be aware - this reviewer insisted that I needed to rewrite my novel because my writing style was not to their taste. I found that very childish, entitled, and narcissistic. After all, it is my dream and not theirs.

So if you're feeling inclined and you've enjoyed the novel please do leave me a review. I don't know if it's all in my head or not, but I'm still a bit worried I may lose my contract. You are my voice, please keep my voice alive, and show my publisher there are people interested in my story. I still have so much to say and I would hate for my voice to be cut short on book two when there are to be seven books in this series. Words do matter and your voice counts! Please show me some support if you do feel so inclined. I would truly appreciate it more than you would know.

I'm currently working on the sixth book, and I'm pretty excited. Each book seems to be getting better than the last. I can't wait for you guys to read them.

Dragons & Magic and Other Tidbits

Four days until the release of my novel Dragons & Magic! Each day that gets closer to the release, the more excited I'm getting! Can't believe how quickly September dissolved away. Soon October will be here. Not that I'm complaining because the first of October is when my book comes out. Yippee!

I recently sent in the fourth book of my Magic Series to my editor. I'm currently working on the fifth book. 45 chapters in and I still have a way to go. This book is definitely going to be the longest of them thus far. Book four was close to hitting fifty chapters, but I think the fifth one is going to have close to if not sixty chapters. I just have some issues to resolve, a plot twist to introduce, and I need to give it a proper ending.

Well, I better get to it! I want to get a lot of writing done before I pop into work today.

Book Two & Other Things

I'm pretty excited. The second novel of my Magic Series Dragons & Magic is set for an October 1st release if you didn't already know. It's available for pre-order so feel free to pre-order your copy.

I'm currently working on the fifth novel in the series, and I'm pretty excited about that. One part of me is like: Only two more books to go, whee! Another part: I have two more books to go yet. Another part of me: Eeek, I'm going to miss these characters. I really will. I hope that you all enjoy them as much as I do. I truly mean that. I can't help but think of what project I'll tackle next after the Magic series is finished, but a part of me can't bear to think of that. I know it's going to end in a way where I'll want more of these characters, but I already know how everyone's story ends. I think that this series could be on-going forever and forever if I let it, but there's another part of me that says life is a balancing act of holding on and letting go. I'll have to let these characters go from the pages even if their stories will never die because I will always hold them in my heart.

Ah, I love writing! I know I could never part with it. I tried to give it up for a time to make people happy, but in the end it only made me sad. I'll never give up on my dreams or my writing, but I will let go of people who try to interfere with my life and try to distract me from my dreams. Writing and words will always be a part of me. I am a writer, it's not just something I can walk away from. If people can't understand that about me then they don't deserve my time or my words.

Cover Reveal!

So I've got something exciting to share. My editor and I agreed upon a cover for my second novel (the second book in the Magic Series), and I'm really impressed with how it turned out. The artist that did the first one was unavailable so Kitty made this cover herself. I really like it! She said she has to format two books ahead of mine, but she hopes to be done formatting mine by next Tuesday at the latest. I'll let you all know when the second book is out!

If you still have yet to read the first book of my Magic series Blood & Magic do make sure you pick up your copy from Barnes & Nobles, Amazon, or Smashwords. While the two are able to be read as stand alones they would certainly make more sense if read in order.

I am plugging away on book five. Hoping to get a bit of work done on that today. Have a lovely Friday, everyone!

Book Four - It's Alive!

My brain feels broken. Ha ha, I guess that's what happens when you push yourself to finish the fourth book of your series in two days and you had to write three chapters before it was done that were actually relevant and happened to sew shut some of the unresolved problems and shed some foreshadowing into the fifth book.

Today I finished book four! I will have to edit it, of course, and send it into my publisher but I am pleased. Now I can start work on book five. There will be seven books in this series but I have tons of ideas for chapter five, a few for six already, and even ideas for seven. I'm fairly excited.

Only the first book has been published thus far, but I will let you guys know when subsequent publications are out. I'm really thrilled that I am finally getting paid to do the one thing in the world that I love to do the most: write. Sometimes I can forget to eat or postpone it because I'm in the midst of an epic battle scene, I can go without sleep, etc. The words must live and the worlds must live and the characters must bleed across the page. I'm so excited to share my words with you and I can only hope you'll love my characters as much as I do.

Of Reviews & Pushing On

Reviews mean the world to me! Please, if you've read my book and actually like it, please pop off a review on Goodreads or Amazon. So far I've been rather disappointed with the reviews I've been getting. It seems the people actually taking time to review my novel don't even like it. Which is frustrating for me. How am I supposed to make sales if people are insisting my book is garbage? Ugh. I understand that it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea but I do wish the reviews would balance out a bit. Where are the people that love this book? Please, come rescue me. This week has been terrible and seeing that three star review just made me feel a bit disheartened. I won't give up writing or stop writing my books, no worries there! It just makes me sad that people don't seem to enjoy my books as much as I do.

If you have yet to purchase a copy of my book you can do so on Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, and Smashwords among other venues.

I am currently working on the fourth book of my Magic series. I love how my characters take me on twists and turns that I didn't expect them to. I am becoming fond of a couple that was just introduced in this series: Nova and Natsumi. Both are of Japanese descent but they both have hearts of gold and fierce warrior spirits. I hope that you guys will enjoy them as much as I do.

I recently sent in the third book of the series to my editor, but I have no word on when the second book will be out. I'll let you guys know when I do. But I am excited and I'm going to keep writing no matter what. It's too late to stop now. The words are in my blood and my heart and my soul and my brain and they have to find a way out. I do hope that I will find readers that love my books, however, and not these people who seem to enjoy ripping my ego to shreds.

An Interview & Some News

Just in case facebook has hid this from you, this is my latest interview: Interview with European Geeks. Every interview always excites me and makes me happy. It's always good to know that there's someone out there that is interested in your work. European Geeks is an amazing platform. They're reviewing my manuscript Amethyst Epiphany right now which is the first in a projected trilogy.

I'm working on the fourth book of the Magic series currently. Florian and Lucille always protest that they don't get enough time in the books especially Florian. I try to explain that it's an ensemble piece that does center around them, but sometimes there's no pleasing those two. I already have rough ideas of what I'm going to do in the other three books (as this is a seven book series). I like to have a rough plot sketch so that ideas can develop as I go along. Sometimes the story takes unexpected twists right away. I love that! It's what makes writing both exciting and frustrating, sometimes, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I am in love with these worlds and these characters and I hope you are, too.

What amuses me is I already know the name of the sixth book but not the fifth. Sometimes the titles just come to me and other times it's not until I've finished the book that a good idea hits me. It's interesting how the creative mind works, and I won't pretend to understand, but I love the way I see the world and the interesting perspectives I garner even if sometimes no one else seems to fathom what I do.

My Interview, Book Giveaway, & More

Guys, in case facebook hid this from you, there is still a giveaway going on in which you could receive one of five free copies of my book! Don't miss out, go enter here! I would love if someone I knew won, but I have no control over that. We'll just see how it all plays out when the giveaway ends, I guess. So keep getting those entries in, people!

Also if you missed it, this week I had an interview in Books and Banter that I found very enjoyable. You can read that here. It is about me and also about my writing process and gives you all the buy links so you can purchase a copy of Blood & Magic if you haven't done so already.

I'm in a very good mood. The sun is shining and it is very beautiful outside. Yesterday I entered a short story into a contest, and this morning I finished chapter 42. I have started chapter 43 of Centaurs & Magic, too. I love productive writing days. They make up for days like yesterday where I didn't seem able to get much done. Have a great Saturday, everyone!

Book Giveaway

I have pinned this post to facebook, but I realize that facebook sometimes likes to hide things from people. If you weren't made aware yet, there is a chance to win one of five copies of my novel Blood and Magic. Just follow the blog link here to find out how: Give Away! Good luck and may the odds be in your favor!

Today is a beautiful day so I think before I do any work on Centaurs & Magic today I might run outside and spend some time in nature. The sun is shining and I have the day off so I may as well take advantage of it, right? I rather think so.

Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday whatever it is you're doing.

An Excerpt From My Novel

Clorian rolled his eyes when Charlus turned to the fray. "You two are just asking for trouble. You're lucky he didn't punish you both for your insolence."

"Oh, whatever. I could have bitten his little wings off if he got his panties in a twist," the part vampire retorted, narrowing his dark brown eyes at the part-dwarf.

"As amusing as that would be, I doubt that would get you very far. He is the high lord of the faeries, they would not forgive that so easily."

Florian scowled. "Let it go, Clorry, nothing came of it."

"Yeah, Clorry, you're such a jerk."

"Is that the only insult you have?"

"Well, I was trying to be nice. I didn't really think I should call you a friendless loser who has as much luck in the sack as an one-eyed hermit mermaid living in an octopus cave, but you know, if you'd rather—"

"No," he interjected, narrowing his eyes. "I think I'll settle with 'jerk', thank you."

Florian laughed hard. "But, Clorry, I quite prefer friendless loser who has as much luck in the sack as an one-eyed hermit mermaid living in an octupus cave," he grinned. He stroked Lucille's hair. "I love you so much," he laughed, kissing her full on the lips.

The goblin king quirked a brow as he gazed at Lucille. She was more powerful than any of these idiots gave her credit for, that he could tell. The magic aura surrounding her was incredible. He wove between men and fellow goblins, elves and fae, vampires and werewolves, druids and nymphs, part-giants and part-trolls, trolls and shape shifters to make his way to the faerie girl.

Lucille felt her defenses creep up, and unbidden her magic came floating to the surface. Her hands shone gold and her hair stood on end of it's own doing. Her eyes were tinged with hints of gold that danced angrily in her green orbs.

"Lucy?" Florian asked.

"A fae's natural defenses against goblins," Clorian explained.

"But where is the goblin?"

"Here," the goblin king smirked. He was rather taller than the rest of the goblins with grey skin, green-grey eyes, and long green hair that resembled sea weed. He was muscular and thin, and could have been attractive if he didn't have such a lecherous look to him or that vicious inch wide and four inch long scar spanning his left cheek and part of his nose. It was a nasty scar and it seemed to fit his nasty personality.

Go away," Lucille growled, in a voice not her own.

Florian blinked.

"It's the magic speaking through her," Clorian whispered.

"It's been quite a while since I tasted the blood of a fae, I fear I hunger for it," the goblin retorted.

"Then you shall hunger ever more, for if you take a step nearer you shall die tonight goblin. Your only feast will be in hell." She was suddenly floating above them, gold shining from every orifice of her body, her eyes completely gold, her fangs down and glittering with rage.

"Your father said that once, and he only gave me this scar."

"She is not her father, she is her. She will destroy you."

Just a taste for those of you that haven't read my novel yet. If you are interested in my novel after reading this excerpt feel free to purchase a copy here: http://www.amazon.com/Blood-Magic-Linda-M-Crate/dp/1508572968/ref=tmm_pap_title_0. Thank you for your time and interest.

My First Review, Reviews, and Books!

Facebook has been helpful in spreading the word about my book, unfortunately, it has also been an uphill battle. It seems that every time I pin something about my book within a week or two Facebook decides it isn't relevant anymore. So I have a favor to ask you - if you know friends, family, librarians that love books please recommend Blood & Magic to them. I have heard it is easier to find the book if you search my name so please remember if you do look me up that way it is not Linda Crate, it is Linda M. Crate. The "M" is important, thank you, very much!

If you have yet to purchase a book remember you can do so here here: http://www.amazon.com/Blood-Magic-Linda-M-Crate/dp/1508572968/ref=tmm_pap_title_0. This is the first book in a journey of seven. So this will be a long journey, not that I mind. I am almost finished with the third book in this series already. I have yet to edit the second but once that is finished, I will be sending that in to my publisher and then following suit with the third.

Also if you have read the book and would like to leave me a review, please do! It would be very helpful and may even boost sales which is always a good thing. Thank you all for your support of my writing and of me. I appreciate it more than you could possibly know.

Also, a huge thank you to Carol for my first five-star review: "Loved the book cant wait to read more from the author!" I was so excited to receive this review. It was a blessing especially after the horrible day I had yesterday.

Sequels and Meandering Thoughts

Well, I've got to start editing Dragons & Magic soon, methinks. My editor told me she didn't need the manuscript until it was completely finished so I better get to it. I have to admit the idea of editing that book isn't nearly as appealing to me as continuing onward with Centaurs & Magic. It's starting to get really interesting - 27 chapters in. I already have ideas for book four taking shape and they are more clear to me now the more I continue onward with book three. I'm really excited. I think book three is definitely the best book thus far and I can't wait to continue the story in the fourth book.

I already have ideas for the books beyond the fourth, but I'm trying to keep some of my ideas contained so they don't ooze all over the pages before the plots are ready. I am very excited about my Magic series, though, and I hope you guys love my characters as much as I do. They give me a lot of grief, though, I won't lie. Always trying to tell me what to do as if I don't know what I'm doing. Geez. Calm down, people, I am the author - you can give me advice should I ask, characters, but cool it. I know what I'm doing.

Of course, as soon as I typed that I heard a snarky voice in my ear: "Oh, is that so? Is that why you're giving my Brynn to him instead of me?" Oh my goodness, Maran, please stop being a jerk. I'm sorry. The story took a different direction than I intended. I tell you, sometimes my characters want to drive me insane. I'm sure my fellow writers can relate.

If you have yet to purchase a copy of the first book in my series Blood & Magic you can do so here: http://www.amazon.com/Blood-Magic-Linda-M-Crate/dp/1508572968/ref=tmm_pap_title_0. It is also available on Barnes & Nobles and Smashwords. You can get it as a paperback or e-book version.

Blood & Magic is out today!

My novel Blood & Magic is out today! I'm super excited. The paperback edition is available today at the following link: Blood & Magic. The kindle version will not be available until later this month, but I do believe it is available to pre-order should anyone wish to do so. I will share the link when the kindle/online version is available to the public.

I'm so blessed! I just want to thank God, my family, friends, and my fans for all their support and constant love. On my worst days you guys have been nothing but kind to me and my writing and I appreciate that more than you could possibly know! Cheers, and I hope you enjoy my novel. It's so, so exciting!

I'm going to try to get some writing in today, but I don't know how well I'll manage that. I'm pretty darn excited about this new adventure in my life!

Coming In March

So excited! Florian and Lucille and the gang will be coming to you in March! I will, of course, let you know exactly when it's out when I get all the links and all the other necessary information. I'm really excited. I hope you guys enjoy the first book in my Magic series.

Blood & Magic came about as a way to immortalize two characters from a roleplay I really enjoyed. The world is different and their personalities are a teensy bit different to fit their new setting, but they're pretty much the same characters. Although Lucille (based on a character that I had named Petula) is annoyed that I have a Petula in the novel that isn't quite so nice. I had to remind her, however, that she was going to be a villain, too, and probably would have if it hadn't been for Florian (Lorcan).

It's funny how some of my characters have more personality than people I know. They amuse me and vex me endlessly, but in the end they are the family I never had. My characters are real people to me so, of course, I feel for them. I get emotionally swept up in their problems. Like I said they are the family I never had. Although, I'm kind-of glad I don't have part-vampires and faeries in my bloodline. It might make things a little more complicated than they already are.

Eek!

So excited! Blood & Magic could be released as soon as the end of March. Just got an email from my editor this morning and she had a slot available in March. I am really excited! Can't wait for all of you to meet my diverse cast of characters.

Yesterday she showed me the interior design for my upcoming novel and all I can say is - yum! It is so lovely. Not to mention the book cover itself is very eye-catching and beautiful. I'm so thrilled. Everything keeps moving along rather smoothly. I'm praying everything goes all right. I'm sure it will. I'm just a worrier. I'm delighted. I asked my publisher if she would like to see the second novel in the series or if I would have to submit it the same way I did Blood & Magic.

Dragons & Magic is the second book of my Magic series. I am currently working on the third book of the series Centaurs & Magic. I already have ideas for the fourth book in the Magic series so I'm trying to calm my mind down and get the third one finished first. All the ideas for the fourth one are coming in like a flood and I do like how these ideas tie into the earlier books and the book I'm working on now.

Some News

Well, my friend has finished looking through my manuscript. So I'm going to look through it and start correcting the errors and then send the revised version back into the editors. I'm excited! It's not nearly as many mistakes as I thought there may have been - still enough to cringe at, but it could certainly be worse. I did try to edit as I went along chapter by chapter. Evidently that paid off a little.

I'm really excited! I'm going to fix the errors today with any luck and then send them back into my publisher later this evening. Then we'll see what happens from there. I've already seen the cover art and it's gorgeous! I can't wait to share it with you all because it's absolutely stunning. I'm very pleased with it.

I wish you all a happy Monday! I'm recovering from a cold or flu - something nasty. I keep hacking my lungs out, but that's not going to ruin my day. Going to keep writing and rest up when my body tells me I should so I can recover all the more quickly. Ta ta for now.

Musings

Don't really have anything new to report. Not yet. I'm still pretty excited that this novel is going to be out in the world. I can't wait for you to meet the characters.

I already have ideas for the 4th book in the Magic Series. But first it would probably be best to finish the third, eh?

Florian and Lucille are growing impatient for me to finish this third book. They're annoyed that they're not in it, but it is placed in a setting that is before they were born. So I think I'm going to have to make it up to them by having them make a few cameo appearances in the fourth book. These characters are something else, I tell you. But they wouldn't be my characters if they were any less than ridiculous. Ha ha. I do love them, don't get me wrong, but they are very demanding.

Florian and Lucille

The photo above is a piece that I commissioned of the two characters Lucille and Florian are based off of. I have a very over-active imagination so it wasn't hard for my brain to make the switch from the HP universe where Miss Rosier and Mr. d'Eath became Lucy Roddingale and Florian d'Ernos. Lucy is a faerie and Florian a part-vampire.

Florian equates sex with food so you can imagine how difficult their relationship can be, sometimes. However, even he admits that Lucille is his one and this terrifies him because he's never loved someone the way he loves her. However, you will see in this novel whether or not their love can handle this strain and many others put on it in Atriel, a land with many secrets but few answers, and once the answers are found...they're likely not what you want to hear.

I really love this book and these characters and I can't wait for you all to meet them. I have finished the sequel to this piece and it is entitled Dragons & Magic. I am working on the third book which is a prequel of sorts as the Magic series clearly does not want to go in complete linear order. I was planning on only four books, but these characters are very demanding. We'll see what happens. The third book is entitled Centaurs & Magic and it pertains to the history of some of the minor and major characters mentioned in Blood and Magic before the birth of Lucille and Florian - so it's quite interesting. My muse and imagination are strange places, but I do hope that you enjoy the places that they take you.
