Guest Post With Annie Douglass Lima

Take a look at this exciting new young adult action and adventure novel, The Student and the Slave, now available for purchase! This is the third book in the Krillonian Chronicles, after The Collar and the Cavvarach and The Gladiator and the Guard

The series is set in an alternate world that is very much like our own, with just a few major differences.  One is that slavery is legal there.  Slaves must wear metal collars that lock around their neck, making their enslaved status obvious to everyone. Another difference is the popularity of a martial art called cavvara shil.  It is fought with a cavvarach (rhymes with "have a rack"), a weapon similar to a sword but with a steel hook protruding from partway down its top edge.  Competitors can strike at each other with their feet as well as with the blades.  You win in one of two ways: disarming your opponent (hooking or knocking their cavvarach out of their hands) or pinning their shoulders to the mat for five seconds.

First, a Little Information about Books 1 and 2:

Book 1: The Collar and the Cavvarach

Bensin, a teenage slave and martial artist, is desperate to see his little sister freed. But only victory in the Krillonian Empire's most prestigious tournament will allow him to secretly arrange for Ellie's escape. Dangerous people are closing in on her, however, and Bensin is running out of time. With his one hope fading quickly away, how can Bensin save Ellie from a life of slavery and abuse?

The Gladiator and the Guard by Annie Douglass LimaBook 2: The Gladiator and the Guard

Bensin, a teenage slave and martial artist, is just one victory away from freedom. But after he is accused of a crime he didn’t commit, he is condemned to the violent life and early death of a gladiator. While his loved ones seek desperately for a way to rescue him, Bensin struggles to stay alive and forge an identity in an environment designed to strip it from him. When he infuriates the authorities with his choices, he knows he is running out of time. Can he stand against the cruelty of the arena system and seize his freedom before that system crushes him?

And now, The Student and the Slave, with another awesome cover by the talented Jack Lin!

Book 3: The Student and the Slave

Is this what freedom is supposed to be like? Desperate to provide for himself and his sister Ellie, Bensin searches fruitlessly for work like all the other former slaves in Tarnestra. He needs the money for an even more important purpose, though: to rescue Coach Steene, who sacrificed himself for Bensin’s freedom. When members of two rival street gangs express interest in Bensin’s martial arts skills, he realizes he may have a chance to save his father figure after all … at a cost.

Meanwhile, Steene struggles with his new life of slavery in far-away Neliria. Raymond, his young owner, seizes any opportunity to make his life miserable. But while Steene longs to escape and rejoin Bensin and Ellie, he starts to realize that Raymond needs him too. His choices will affect not only his own future, but that of everyone he cares about. Can he make the right ones … and live with the consequences?

Trying to Remain Optimistic

Hey, all! I hate to sound like a broken record but things have been slow. I haven't been paid in months which means there haven't been many sales. So if you're looking for books for your loved ones and they enjoy fantasy please get a copy or two for them and yourself. I could really use the help! If you're unfamiliar or unsure of where to get a copy of my books you can do so at the following links: Blood & Magic, Dragons & Magic, Centaurs & Magic, and Corvids & Magic.

If you've already purchased a copy and find that you like my books please leave reviews. Some accounts say you need at least 25 reviews to be seen on Amazon whilst I have heard that it could be as much as 50. I, of course, have nowhere near that for any of my books so I could use all the help I could get. Thank you! I do appreciate your kindness and your time.

I'm trying to remain optimistic about the future. I am trying to believe in myself and my books, but I have to admit that sometimes it's hard. I've been in a funk for the past two weeks, but I'm hoping I can shake it off soon. I hope you all have great days. Thank you for supporting me and my writing, that's truly a blessing!

The Universe Hasn't Been Kind

Please make my day and buy some of my books. My very livelihood could very well rely on it. If you need the links to my books here you are: Blood & Magic, Dragons & Magic, Centaurs & Magic, and Corvids & Magic.

I need reviews and more book sales. I'm so exhausted right now. I keep pushing and pushing, but it seems for naught. I know that I have to keep going, I know that I need to keep going on because dreams don't work unless you do, but I am so tired. I could use some good in my life. Something really good to help break up all this struggling because work has been terrible, book sales have been down, and I've been hearing a lot of nos from editors lately. I've just had enough. I know that life isn't always going to be roses. I know I have reasons to smile. It's just hard to remember this when I feel like my head is barely above the water right now.

This Has Been A Depressing Week, Please Be My Sunshine

Got a rather disheartening email from my editor. Book sales have been down all around which is really rather disappointing. She said she'll have to start getting rid of authors and titles that aren't selling and as I haven't made a sale in months I'm beginning to panic. I have seven books total to this series and only four have been published. I don't want to lose this chance. I have been struggling with so many things lately. I am just ready for a break.

So please make my day and buy some of my books. My very livelihood could very well rely on it. If you need the links to my books here you are: Blood & Magic, Dragons & Magic, Centaurs & Magic, and Corvids & Magic.

I need more books sold, I need more reviews, and I need new and renewed hope! Everything has been scary and frustrating and filling me with anxiety. Everyone says what will be will be, but I hope it holds good fortune for me and my books. I don't want this series to die and I really don't want this dream to be dashed. Please help me keep it alive!

Show Me the Love, Please?!

I could really use some help. Book sales are down, most unfortunately. I haven't gotten paid in months so I could really use some sales and some positive energy in relation to my books. Even prayer and just sharing this blog post helps! If you need the links to my books here you are: Blood & Magic, Dragons & Magic, Centaurs & Magic, and Corvids & Magic.

Also, also, also! If you enjoyed my books, I do appreciate you telling me that you liked them, but please leave me a review. I need 20+ reviews before I start really getting seen on Amazon so in addition to book sales I could really use some reviews, as well. I hate to sound like a broken record or irritate people, but it is really important. I'm not sure why getting people to review books is like pulling teeth, but it is and I'm just exhausted of repeating myself. So I can only imagine how tired you of hearing it so please REVIEW, REVIEW, REVIEW!

Also, thank you for sticking by me and showing an interest in me and my writing. As an independent author and writer I cannot tell you how much I truly appreciate your support, but I do! Thank you. You guys rock!

Let's Push This Dream All The Way

Hello, all! I think those two pictures pretty much sum up how I'm feeling right now. Things have been slow, and I could really use your help in getting them off the ground. If you need the links to my books here you are: Blood & Magic, Dragons & Magic, Centaurs & Magic, and Corvids & Magic.

Please don't allow me to be silenced. I have three more books to go in this series, and I would love a chance for people to be able to read them all. Also if you enjoy my books whilst it is perfectly fine to tell me, please leave me a review so my publisher can know. So many have personally told me which means a lot to me, it does, but my publisher needs to know; too. Please help keep my books afloat and help promote the dream of an indie writer. I would love you forever.

Also if you haven't purchased any of the books yet and would like to, please feel free. I thank you for both your time and your patience. I appreciate each and every person who has helped me get this far. Now let's push this dream further and see it through!

Writing From the Heart

Hey, all! I think it's some time for some real talk. I think writing just for money and prestige is wrong. I believe writing should flow out of your heart and soul and be the essence of who and what you are because I feel that writers are truly pulled into their craft and chooses them rather than the other way around, and I've read some writers who can use language well but left me feeling empty or bereft of any emotions because their writing is clearly for the money. Do I want money? Of course. Do I want prestige? It would be nice. It's not my only reason for writing, though. I want to enrich and heal the world and help people as my favorite writers have done me. I want to give people worlds and realms of solace where they can swim or jump into on a hot summer's day, fall in love with over and over again on a rainy spring day, enjoy near a warm fire in winter, and sit beneath a tree with in autumn.

I am not a media mogul or famous person who has people working media and promotions for them constantly so they can come out with a book one day and it be on the best seller's list the next. I am a struggling, independent writer trying to make her dream of relying solely on her writing to make ends meet because I have bills to pay just like anyone else. I would love to be comfortable so my family didn't have to worry me and to be able to spoil my friends and family and give more than a measly few bucks to charities or go fund me's every once in a blue moon when I can afford to. I want to make this world a better place and at the same time have the world be a better place for me, too.

I hope that in time my writing only improves and improves and ages like fine wine (oh, and let's be honest I hope my body does, too).

Here are the links to my books: Blood & Magic, Dragons & Magic, Centaurs & Magic, and Corvids & Magic. I also write poetry, short stories, reviews, essays, etc. So please leave me reviews, buy my books, promote by word of mouth, wish me well and pray. I really just want to make it. I'm struggling so hard to make my dream of being a full time writer a reality. Sooner or later, I will get there, but I rather it be sooner than later. So if all you can do is leave me a review or give me a word of encouragement, I will take that. There have been so many negative words said about me and my books and not all of the positive things I've heard from what my friends are saying are in reviews to combat them so trust me - any kindness, at all, is appreciated. Thank you all and if you're reading this, thank you for being here. Have a wonderful day.
